TMJ Relief at ChiroActive
Chiropractic care can be beneficial for individuals experiencing Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorders. TMJ connects the jawbone to the skull, and dysfunction in this joint can cause pain, clicking, and limited mobility in the jaw, face, and surrounding areas.
Our chiropractors at ChiroActive use spinal manipulation and other techniques including active release technique (ART) to address TMJ issues by:
- Relieving tension: Chiropractic adjustments help relax tense muscles and joints in the neck, shoulder, and jaw, reducing pressure on the TMJ.
- Improving alignment: Chiropractors ensure proper alignment of the spine, skull, and jaw, which can help alleviate stress on the TMJ.
- Increasing mobility: Chiropractic care can improve range of motion in the jaw, reducing stiffness and discomfort.
- Reducing pain: By addressing underlying musculoskeletal issues, chiropractic care can help reduce pain and inflammation in the TMJ and surrounding areas.
- Promoting relaxation: Chiropractors may also use techniques like massage, stretching, and relaxation exercises to help manage stress and tension, which can contribute to TMJ issues.

Massage Therapy Treatment
Massage therapy treatment for temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJD) includes work on all the muscles that are involved in movement of the TMJ and compensation for the dysfunction. By massaging and encouraging activation of the the muscles we can help relax and muscles, encourage proper joint movement, and relieve pain. This treatment can include Swedish techniques, muscle energy techniques, and intra-oral massage. This treatment typically includes treatment of the jaw, face, head, and neck and may also help reduce TMJ related tension headaches.
Intra-oral massage is the massage of the muscles from inside the mouth, this is totally optional. For patients who are interested in intra-oral treatment please ask your massage therapist during your intake at the first appointment.
